Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is usually extremely distressing and sometimes incapacitating, interfering with work, family and interpersonal relationships. Traditional psychotherapy is ineffective in treating OCD.

OCD can usually be effectively treated in an outpatient treatment modality. The OCD center at WPIC provides the recommended combination of behavioral therapy (Exposure with Response Prevention) and medication treatment. In cases where symptoms are more severe, or after failing to improve significantly through outpatient treatment, referral to the Intensive Outpatient Program is indicated.

The OCD Intensive Out-Patient treatment programs provide group, individual and family therapy in a concentrated manner, 3 hours daily, 3 days per week. The average length of treatment at the intensive treatment program is 4 to 6 weeks. Clients are assigned a primary therapist who works closely with them on behavioral exposures to the feared obsessions. Clients learn to work on their own as they progress with exposures to acquire the ability to work without the direct support of a therapist, to perform homework exposures and follow-up with less intensive outpatient treatment.
Intensive treatment programs are available in the morning or afternoon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There are plans to develop a Tuesday evening program for people unable to attend during the day.

Anxiety Disorders including Phobias, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, and Panic Disorder are also treated at the OCD/Anxiety treatment center. Cognitive behavioral therapy, often combined with medication treatment, is the most effective therapy for Anxiety Disorders. Anxiety Disorders can be treated in an outpatient or intensive outpatient format at the center.
